Linear chat is the wrong interface for AI
And we're not the only ones who feel that way. These are real comments from real people describing the same shortcomings. We're building mindmap.io to address them.
I just wish the conversational UXs we had access to were less rubbish, less linear… a 'forking' capability so I can go back to a certain point in time in the chat and fork off a new rabbit hole of context.
I want to be able to fork conversations so I can experiment with the direction an exchange takes without irrevocably poisoning a promising well.
I find it interesting that no one has created a better interface for these LLMs. Two things that should be available by now… are branching and history editing.
The more valuable a chat becomes, the harder it is to utilize.

The graph view turns out to be nothing than a bunch of dots… but you can't actually do anything with it.
Linear chat interfaces simply weren't built for nonlinear thinking.
I kept losing track of my AI conversations, prompts, and research. Everything was scattered across tabs, chats, bookmarks, screenshots, and random notes.
ChatGPT's sidebar is fine for finding recent chats. But when you have 500+ conversations across different projects? It falls apart.
I get the best results when I combine perspectives from different AI models. But switching providers to do that was a mess.
I like the idea of moving away from hierarchal menu navigation, towards spatial map navigation… maps are a lot more natural and easier for people to remember than hierarchies.
I would love it completely if it had ALL Xmind features, plus collaboration and AI
