FAQs
What counts as one generation?
One answer in one node. A retry counts again, and auto-expand counts one for every node it fills in. Zoom summaries are on us.
What happens when I hit my daily limit?
Your map keeps working, you just can't run new prompts until the count resets at midnight UTC. Free gets 3 generations a day, Mindmaps gets 50, and Promptmaps is metered in dollars instead.
What is the context for each prompt?
The path from the root down to that node, and nothing else. That is what lets two branches explore opposite directions without bleeding into each other.
Which models can I use?
GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Kimi, and many more, picked per node. Free and Mindmaps run a smaller set of cheaper models, Promptmaps and Lifetime open all of them.
Can I build a mindmap by talking to AI?
Yes, in two ways. Ask Milo, the agent that lives on your map, to build it for you, or point your own AI at our MCP server and let it build the map from where you already work.
Can I use my own Claude subscription with mindmap.io?
Yes. Add our MCP server to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or Cursor, and your own AI can read, build, and edit your maps for you.
Can I use it as a plain mind map, with no AI?
Yes. Nodes are plain notes until you turn one into a prompt. Keyboard-first mapping, sharing, and export never spend a generation.
What happens to my maps if I cancel?
You keep every one of them, readable and editable. But if you have exceeded the free limit of 3 mindmaps, you won't be able to create new ones until you resubscribe.
Can I share a map with someone who has no account?
Yes, you can publish a mindmap and get a read-only link anyone can open, or embed it in a page.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. mindmap.io runs in the browser on phones and tablets, with touch panning, zooming, and editing. Nothing to install.
Do you train AI on my maps?
No, we don't train AI on your maps. Your prompts go to the model provider you picked to answer the node. That's it.
